Then Ishmael took captive all the rest of the people who were in Mizpah—even the king’s daughters (ladies of the court) and all the people who remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard had put under the charge of Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. Ishmael the son of Nethaniah took them captive and crossed over [the Jordan] to [meet his allies] the Ammonites. Johanan Rescues the People

Then Ishmael carried away captive all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, even the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam: and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the Ammonites.

Ishmael then took everyone else in Mizpah, including the king’s daughters entrusted to the care of Gedaliah son of Ahikam by Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard, as prisoners. Rounding up the prisoners, Ishmael son of Nethaniah proceeded to take them over into the country of Ammon. 11-12 Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers with him heard about the atrocities committed by Ishmael son of Nethaniah. They set off at once after Ishmael son of Nethaniah. They found him at the large pool at Gibeon. 13-15 When all the prisoners from Mizpah who had been taken by Ishmael saw Johanan son of Kareah and the army officers with him, they couldn’t believe their eyes. They were so happy! They all rallied around Johanan son of Kareah and headed back home. But Ishmael son of Nethaniah got away, escaping from Johanan with eight men into the land of Ammon.

Nebuzaradan was the commander of the royal guard. He had appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over all the people at Mizpah. But Ishmael made prisoners of the people left at Mizpah. These prisoners included women who were members of the royal court. The prisoners also included everyone else left at Mizpah. Then Ishmael started out to go across the Jordan River to the land of Ammon.

ثُمَّ سَبَى إِسْمَاعِيلُ بَقِيَّةَ الشَّعْبِ الَّذِي كَانَ فِي الْمِصْفَاةِ، وَبَنَاتِ الْمَلِكِ، وَكُلَّ مَنْ تَخَلَّفَ فِي الْمِصْفَاةِ، مِمَّنْ عَهِدَ بِهِمْ نَبُوزَرَادَانُ رَئِيسُ الشُّرْطَةِ إِلَى جَدَلِيَا بْنِ أَخِيقَامَ، وَانْطَلَقَ بِهِمْ إِسْمَاعِيلُ إِلَى بَنِي عَمُّونَ.

Ishmael tog så resten af byens indbyggere til fange, både kongens døtre og alle dem, som Nebuzaradan havde overladt i Gedaljas varetægt i Mitzpa, og flygtede til ammonitternes land.
