2 Corinthians 7:10

For [godly] sorrow that is in accord with the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation; but worldly sorrow [the hopeless sorrow of those who do not believe] produces death.

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Distress that drives us to God does that. It turns us around. It gets us back in the way of salvation. We never regret that kind of pain. But those who let distress drive them away from God are full of regrets, end up on a deathbed of regrets. 11-13 And now, isn’t it wonderful all the ways in which this distress has goaded you closer to God? You’re more alive, more concerned, more sensitive, more reverent, more human, more passionate, more responsible. Looked at from any angle, you’ve come out of this with purity of heart. And that is what I was hoping for in the first place when I wrote the letter. My primary concern was not for the one who did the wrong or even the one wronged, but for you—that you would realize and act upon the deep, deep ties between us before God. That’s what happened—and we felt just great. 13-16 And then, when we saw how Titus felt—his exuberance over your response—our joy doubled. It was wonderful to see how revived and refreshed he was by everything you did. If I went out on a limb in telling Titus how great I thought you were, you didn’t cut off that limb. As it turned out, I hadn’t exaggerated one bit. Titus saw for himself that everything I had said about you was true. He can’t quit talking about it, going over again and again the story of your prompt obedience, and the dignity and sensitivity of your hospitality. He was quite overwhelmed by it all! And I couldn’t be more pleased—I’m so confident and proud of you.

Porque Dios permite a veces que la tristeza venga sobre nosotros para conducirnos al arrepentimiento y alcanzar la salvación. Por tanto, no debemos lamentar esa tristeza, que no es como la que procede del mundo, que lleva a la muerte.

Godly sadness causes us to turn away from our sins and be saved. And we are certainly not sorry about that! But worldly sadness brings death.

For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.

Kay ang kasub-anan nga sumala sa kabubut-on sa Dios nagahatod sa tawo ngadto sa paghinulsol ug kana nagaresulta sa kaluwasan—ug kini dili angay pagabasolan. Apan ang kasubo sa mga tawo nga wala moila sa Dios nagadala kanila ngadto sa kamatayon.

Bůh užil bolesti jako léku k vaší nápravě, takže jsem vám nijak neublížil. Lítost způsobená Bohem vede člověka ke změně postoje a tím i k záchraně, taková lítost je žádoucí. Na druhé straně nespokojenost bez Boha člověka jen ubíjí.

Gud kan nemlig bruge den slags bedrøvelse til at føre mennesker til omvendelse og evigt liv. Det er en bedrøvelse, man ikke ville have været foruden. Men den bedrøvelse, som udspringer af verdslig tankegang, ender i død.

Denn die von Gott bewirkte Traurigkeit führt zur Umkehr und bringt Rettung. Und wer sollte das jemals bereuen! Nur die Traurigkeit, die rein menschlicher Art ist, bewirkt den Tod.

עצב הבא עלינו ברצון אלוהים מביא אותנו לידי תשובה וישועה, ואיש אינו מתחרט על כך. לעומת זאת, עצב הבא על הלא-מאמינים אינו מביא לידי תשובה, אלא למוות.

Den fortvilelsen Gud lar oss kjenne, virker slik at vi vender om til ham og får evig liv. Denne type fortvilelse vil ingen behøve å angre på. Vanlig menneskelig fortvilelse derimot, den driver oss mot døden.

Boży smutek sprawia, że ludzie porzucają grzech i dążą do zbawienia—po jakimś czasie nikt się więc nie martwi tym, że został w ten sposób zasmucony. Smutek pochodzący z tego świata jest jednak zupełnie inny, prowadzi bowiem ludzi do rozpaczy i śmierci.

Ľútosť podľa vôle Božej vedie človeka k zmene jeho postoja, a tým aj k záchrane. Na druhej strane zármutok bez Pána Boha človeka zabíja.

Den bedrövelse Gud låter någon känna leder till omvändelse, och den behöver ingen ångra. Men världslig bedrövelse driver mot döden.

Kwa maana huzuni ikitumiwa na Mungu huwafanya watu watubu dhambi zao wapate kuokolewa; nao wanakuwa hawana majuto. Lakini huzuni ya kidunia husababisha kifo.

ความเศร้าเสียใจอย่างที่อยู่ในทางพระเจ้าส่งผลให้กลับใจใหม่อันนำไปสู่ความรอดและไม่เหลือความเสียใจไว้ ส่วนความเศร้าเสียใจอย่างโลกนำไปสู่ความตาย

合乎上帝心意的忧伤会带来悔改，使人得到救恩，永不后悔，但世俗的忧伤只会带来死亡。

因 为 依 着 神 的 意 思 忧 愁 ， 就 生 出 没 有 後 悔 的 懊 悔 来 。 以 致 得 救 ； 但 世 俗 的 忧 愁 是 叫 人 死 。

合乎上帝心意的憂傷會帶來悔改，使人得到救恩，永不後悔，但世俗的憂傷只會帶來死亡。
