Now the news reached Joab, for Joab had supported and followed Adonijah, although he had not followed Absalom. So Joab fled to the [sacred] tent of the Lord and took hold of the horns of the altar [to seek asylum].

Then tidings came to Joab: for Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he turned not after Absalom. And Joab fled unto the tabernacle of the Lord, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

News of what Solomon had done reached Joab. Joab had never made evil plans along with Absalom. But he had joined Adonijah. So he ran to the tent of the Lord. He grabbed the horns that stuck out from the upper corners of the altar for burnt offerings.

Joab had not joined Absalom’s earlier rebellion, but he had joined Adonijah’s rebellion. So when Joab heard about Adonijah’s death, he ran to the sacred tent of the Lord and grabbed on to the horns of the altar.

فَبَلَغَ الْخَبَرُ يُوآبَ الَّذِي كَانَ قَدْ تَآمَرَ مَعَ أَدُونِيَّا وَلَيْسَ مَعَ أَبْشَالُومَ، فَهَرَبَ إِلَى خَيْمَةِ الرَّبِّ وَتَشَبَّثَ بِقُرُونِ الْمَذْبَحِ،

Da Joab hørte nyheden om Adonijas død, søgte han straks tilflugt i helligdommen og greb fat om alterets horn. Han var i fare, fordi han havde støttet Adonija i hans oprør, selv om han ikke havde støttet Absalom.

Bald erfuhr Joab, was geschehen war. Damals bei Absaloms Verschwörung hatte er sich den Aufständischen nicht angeschlossen, doch diesmal hatte er sich auf Adonijas Seite geschlagen. Darum ergriff er nun schnell die Flucht. Er floh in das heilige Zelt des Herrn und hielt sich an den Hörnern des Altars fest.[d]

Toen Joab hoorde dat Adonia was gedood—hij had zelf meegedaan aan de opstand van Adonia, maar niet aan die van Absalom—rende hij voor bescherming naar het heiligdom en greep de horens van het altaar.
