So they took the bull that was given to them and prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, “O Baal, hear and answer us.” But there was no voice and no one answered. And they leaped about the altar which they had made.

You don’t suppose he’s overslept, do you, and needs to be waked up?” They prayed louder and louder, cutting themselves with swords and knives—a ritual common to them—until they were covered with blood.

Så tog de den ene tyr, gjorde den i stand og lagde den på Ba’als alter, og fra morgen til middag råbte de på Ba’al. „Åh Ba’al, hør os!” råbte de, men der hørtes ikke en lyd, og der skete ingen verdens ting. Så dansede og hoppede de rundt om alteret, til de var helt udmattede.

De gjorde i ordning en av tjurarna som man gav dem. De ropade sedan hela förmiddagen på Baal: ”Baal, svara oss!” Men de fick inget svar, och då började de hoppa runt altaret[a] som de hade gjort.
