But the leaders of the Ammonites said to Hanun, “[a]Do you think that David has sent people to console and comfort you because he honors your father? Have his servants not come to you to search and to overthrow and to spy out the land?”

But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?

The Ammonite commanders spoke to Hanun. They said, “David has sent messengers to tell you he is sad. They say he wants to honor your father. But the real reason they’ve come is to look the land over. They want to destroy it.”

قَالَ رُؤَسَاءُ بَنِي عَمُّونَ لِحَانُونَ: «أَتَظُنُّ أَنَّ دَاوُدَ يَسْعَى لإِكْرَامِ وَالِدِكَ فِي عَيْنَيْكَ حَتَّى بَعَثَ إِلَيْكَ بِوَفْدِ الْمُعَزِّينَ؟ أَلَمْ يُرْسِلْهُم لاِسْتِكْشَافِ الْبِلادِ، وَلِلتَّجَسُّسِ عَلَى الأَرْضِ وَاسْتِطْلاعِ مَدَاخِلِهَا؟»

Men de ammonitiske officerer sagde til Hanun: „De mænd er ikke kommet for at ære din fars minde! Nej, det er blot et påskud for at udspionere os, for i virkeligheden har David i sinde at angribe os.”

Aber die Fürsten des Landes sagten zu König Hanun: »Glaubst du wirklich, David hat diese Männer nur zu dir gesandt, um deinem Vater die letzte Ehre zu erweisen und dir sein Beileid auszusprechen? Das ist doch nur ein Vorwand! Spione sind sie, die unser Land auskundschaften sollen, weil David uns bald angreifen und erobern will!«

nagsiling ang mga opisyal sang mga Ammonhon kay Hanun, “Nagahunahuna ka bala nga ginadumdom ni David ang imo amay paagi sa pagpadala sang mga tawo sa pag-unong sa imo kalisod? Indi ayhan nagkadto sila diri sa pagpang-espiya sa aton duta kag laglagon ini?”

亞捫的官長卻對哈嫩說：「大衛派人來安慰你，你以為他是來弔唁你父親嗎？他的臣僕來見你不過是來探聽虛實，想征服這地方。」
